Mesna Intravenous for Adults

Who can administer

May be administered by registered competent doctor or nurse/midwife

Important information

  • This is not a cytotoxic agent - cytotoxic handling precautions do not apply
  • A minimum urine output of 100ml/hr should be maintained during therapy

Available preparations

Uromitexan 400mg in 4ml ampoule

Uromitexan 1000mg in 10ml ampoule

Reconstitution

Already in solution

Draw up using a 5 micron filter needle

Infusion fluids

Sodium chloride 0.9% or Glucose 5%

Methods of intravenous administration

Intermittent intravenous infusion (ref 1)

  • Administer as per chemotherapy/renal protocols
  • Usually given over 15 to 30 minutes

Continuous intravenous infusion

  • Administer as per chemotherapy protocols

Dose in adults

As per chemotherapy/renal protocols
