Chlorphenamine Intravenous for Adults

May be administered by registered competent doctor or nurse/midwife

Chlorphenamine 10mg per 1ml ampoule

Reconstitution

Already in solution

Draw up using a 5 micron filter needle

Infusion fluids

Not required - product ready for use

Methods of intravenous administration

Slow intravenous injection

  • Administer over 1 minute
  • May be further diluted with Sodium chloride 0.9% to a convenient volume to aid administration (ref 1)

Dose in adults

Usual dose

  • Give 10mg to 20mg stat
  • Maximum dose is 40mg in 24 hours

Storage

  • Store below 250C
  • Protect from light
