Vitlipid N Intravenous Infusion for Adults

Who can administer

May be administered by registered competent doctor or nurse/midwife

Important information

  • In SHORT SUPPLY as of February 2023, use Cernevit in the meantime
  • Must be co-administered with Solivito N (to ensure both water and fat-soluble vitamins are given)
  • This combination replaces Cernevit (temporarily in short supply)
  • Vitlipid contains Vitamin K - so separate supplementation is not usually necessary

Available preparations

    Each 10mL ampoule contains
Vitamin A Retinol palmitate 990micrograms (3,300 units)
Vitamin D2 Ergocalciferol 5micrograms (200 units)
Vitamin E dl-alpha-tocopherol 9.1mg (10 units)
Vitamin K1 Phytomenadione 150micrograms

Draw up using a 5 micron filter needle

Infusion fluids

Sodium chloride 0.9% (ref 1)

Methods of intravenous administration

Intermittent intravenous infusion

  • Add the contents of one ampoule of Vitlipid to one vial of Solivito N - this will reconstitute the Solivito
  • Then add the mixture of Solivito N/Vitlipid N to 100mL infusion fluid and administer over at least two hours (ref 1)
  • If patient is also prescribed Additrace, this may be added to the same infusion bag (ref 1)
  • Invert the infusion bag several times to ensure adequate mixing
  • Protect from light during administration

Dose in adults

Usual dose

  • One ampoule diluted as above daily
