• While the PN monograph includes information on the addition of electrolytes, it does so only up to lower limits
• The information here is for use by pharmacists should higher amounts be required
• A senior pharmacist with experience in PN should write detailed instructions in the patient's notes
• Thorough mixing after the addition of electrolytes is ESSENTIAL to avoid pooling of the electrolyte in one portion of the bag
