Mesna Intravenous for Adults

Who can administer

May be administered by registered competent doctor or nurse/midwife

Important information

  • This is not a cytotoxic agent - cytotoxic handling precautions do not apply
  • A minimum urine output of 100mL/hour should be maintained during therapy and the urine monitored for haematuria and proteinuria throughout the treatment period

Available preparations

Uromitexan 400mg in 4mL ampoule

Uromitexan 1000mg in 10mL ampoule

Reconstitution

Already in solution

Draw up using a 5 micron filter needle

Infusion fluids

Sodium chloride 0.9% or Glucose 5%

Methods of intravenous administration

Intermittent intravenous infusion

  • Administer as per chemotherapy/renal protocols
  • Usually given over 15 to 30 minutes

Continuous intravenous infusion

  • Administer as per chemotherapy protocols

Dose in adults

As per chemotherapy/renal protocols
